The question that the article seeks to answer is about the nature of modern consumerism. In fact, does the course of economic development of societies by itself lead to a pattern of abundance and consumerism, or does consumerism grow and develop in unnatural ways and by manipulating the will of consumers? By answering this question, this phenomenon can be considered natural, balanced, and desirable, or it can be considered abnormal, unbalanced, and undesirable, and confronted with its backgrounds and growth factors, and a natural pattern can replace it.
This article by studying the evolution of consumption and consumerism in capitalist societies, demonstrates that this model, especially in its modern form, which has become a desirable ideology and lifestyle in capitalist societies, is by no means unprecedented and with changes. Culturally, economically and technologically it has grown and developed in this way. Therefore, this pattern can not and should not be considered a natural pattern and any current and pattern opposite to it is unnatural and doomed to failure. In addition, it can be shown that Western societies themselves have moved towards alternative models of consumerism, and in this regard, the presentation of the Islamic consumption model is suggested by the author of the article.
